What is eel goby?

Eel gobies are small fish in the Gobiidae family that are found in coastal waters throughout the Indo-Pacific region. They are named for their elongated, eel-like bodies and unique way of swimming, which involves undulating movements similar to an eel.

These fish are typically found in sandy or muddy habitats near coral reefs, where they burrow into the substrate for protection and to search for small invertebrates to eat. Eel gobies feed primarily on small crustaceans, worms, and other tiny creatures that they find in the sand.

Eel gobies are well-adapted for life in their sandy environment, with a flattened body shape and eyes positioned on the top of their head to help them blend in and stay hidden from predators. They are also able to change color to match their surroundings, providing additional camouflage.

These fish are popular in the aquarium trade due to their unique appearance and interesting behavior. However, they can be challenging to keep in captivity, as they require a sandy substrate and plenty of hiding places to feel secure. It is important to provide them with a well-balanced diet and proper water conditions to ensure their health and well-being.
